WHAT WE DO
The Concept Wheels
Concept Wheels is a DT Swiss-trained and certified wheel builder. We work closely with individual customers to build the wheelset that best meets their needs and requirements, at a price that is surprisingly affordable.
Depending on rider skill and weight, terrain type, we would be happy to propose wheel components and setups optimised for the ride, conditions and duration.
The goal of Concept Wheels is to help customers select and build the highest quality wheelsets at the most affordable price point. All Concept Wheels wheelsets are meticulously hand-built using cold-forged spokes precision cut on a Phil Wood spoke cutter.
Satisfied customers include riders who have successfully completed the Absa Cape Epic race. Not all our customers are racers. Prior to coming to us, one of our customers, who weighs 125kg, would often end up breaking spokes, especially on demanding rides.
To solve this problem, we configured and built an optimised wheelset based on his needs and for this rider, broken spokes are now a thing of the past.
While we are happy to assist customers in determining the optimum combination of rims, spokes and hubs, we are also happy to work with customers who already know what specific components they want, and who simply require the services of a skilled, experienced wheel builder.
Wheelsets built by Concept Wheels are warrantied to be free from workmanship defects for 12 months from date of collection. The warranty is non-transferrable and covers the breakage of spokes and nipples from regular use but not from accidents or chain skip.
Warranty claims on hubs and rims are to be made against the respective.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS
I went to my bicycle manufacturers LBS to get the nipples changed from alloy to brass to prevent further spoke breaking, on my about $1.5k rear wheel. When I got it back it felt like a $500 wheel, wobbly, lazy and slow, making the bicycle feel tail heavy.
Since I never let things slide, fearing bigger problems along the way I contacted Peter. He told me what he can and can't do and that my wheel might not survive his treatment, when the done damage is too big.
Long story cut short, he got the wheel picked up, worked on it for 3 day, provided constant updates (pictures & videos) on what’s wrong and how he is fixing it.
I paid the little money he asked for, got the wheel delivered back and "shoot me", the wheel is even better than before, feels like $2k wheel now.
Peter is geek in what he is doing, and he is brilliant in it.
You don't have any reason to give your wheels into the hands of anybody else if you appreciate the work of an expert.
Without him I would have lost my wheel soon. So, any money he charged was a saving for me. Well done Peter, I’ll be forever grateful!

Why do I make such a bold statement?
I am 188cm and weighing in at 115 kilograms. That's 0.115 ton!
I ride a Brompton when Brompton has warned of their upper weight limits to their bicycles. Brompton bicycles has a 110kg weigh limit. Peter has built me a rim that withstand my perverted torture to the Brompton.
On a 16 inch wheel, I have broken spokes three separate times and previous fixes weren't able to prevent further spokes breaking at the hub area.
I left the rim at Peter's and this gentleman is a good customer manager too by telling me it will take 3-4 days to complete.
However, either by chance or his good customer service, he rang me the next day telling me he managed to complete my wheel. I collected the wheel the next day. I left the Rim on T Day and I collected it two days after! That's t+2!!
Peter has followed up with his work even after I collected my wheel and messages regularly to check back if everything is ok. His passion in this area is truly commendable. I thank him for this.
The important thing is that the wheel has not failed on me till today! It's been nearly 6 months, clocking over 2000km and apart from the early squeaking where the wheel was setting in..... It is now working perfectly! I haven't lost any weight myself and the wheel is going strong!!
Thank you Peter the Master Wheel Builder with Great Customer Management!
