WHAT WE DO

The Concept Wheels

Concept Wheels is a DT Swiss-trained and certified wheel builder. We work closely with individual customers to build the wheelset that best meets their needs and requirements, at a price that is surprisingly affordable.

Depending on rider skill and weight, terrain type, we would be happy to propose wheel components and setups optimised for the ride, conditions and duration.

The goal of Concept Wheels is to help customers select and build the highest quality wheelsets at the most affordable price point. All Concept Wheels wheelsets are meticulously hand-built using cold-forged spokes precision cut on a Phil Wood spoke cutter.

Satisfied customers include riders who have successfully completed the Absa Cape Epic race. Not all our customers are racers. Prior to coming to us, one of our customers, who weighs 125kg, would often end up breaking spokes, especially on demanding rides.

To solve this problem, we configured and built an optimised wheelset based on his needs and for this rider, broken spokes are now a thing of the past.

While we are happy to assist customers in determining the optimum combination of rims, spokes and hubs, we are also happy to work with customers who already know what specific components they want, and who simply require the services of a skilled, experienced wheel builder.

Wheelsets built by Concept Wheels are warrantied to be free from workmanship defects for 12 months from date of collection. The warranty is non-transferrable and covers the breakage of spokes and nipples from regular use but not from accidents or chain skip.

Warranty claims on hubs and rims are to be made against the respective.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

JohnatonPeter has greatly help my issue by “true-ing” my bicycle spoke! His impeccable service and post service to his customers are really exceptional. Will definitely intro my friends and family if their bike spoke has issue. You asked by? Because when I gotten back my wheels, I felt is a brand new bike I am riding. FYI I using my Brompton to do food panda as well. I am unsure what is the market rate out there for serving on spokes, but whatever it is, is definitely worth very penny and time to go get Peter do assist you! What are you waiting for? Haha

HEIKO “When you have an aching tooth, see a dentist. When you have a problem with a wheel, see Peter!“

I went to my bicycle manufacturers LBS to get the nipples changed from alloy to brass to prevent further spoke breaking, on my about $1.5k rear wheel. When I got it back it felt like a $500 wheel, wobbly, lazy and slow, making the bicycle feel tail heavy.

Since I never let things slide, fearing bigger problems along the way I contacted Peter. He told me what he can and can't do and that my wheel might not survive his treatment, when the done damage is too big.

Long story cut short, he got the wheel picked up, worked on it for 3 day, provided constant updates (pictures & videos) on what’s wrong and how he is fixing it.

I paid the little money he asked for, got the wheel delivered back and "shoot me", the wheel is even better than before, feels like $2k wheel now.

Peter is geek in what he is doing, and he is brilliant in it.

You don't have any reason to give your wheels into the hands of anybody else if you appreciate the work of an expert.

Without him I would have lost my wheel soon. So, any money he charged was a saving for me. Well done Peter, I’ll be forever grateful!

And for you, dear reader, my advise is: If you think your wheel has a problem, don't wait! Talk to Peter (free of charge) and take it from there.

Johnaton Peter’s proficiency and knowledge of bicycle mechanics are simply the best in the industry. Having been through multiple bike mechanics from “reputable” bicycle shops that simply cannot give a solution to my bike’s mechanical issues and requirements, I chance upon Peter of The Concept wheels service a few years back and have been a satisfied customer ever since! Having ridden thousands of km on local as well as overseas trips, confident to say that the difference after his delicate maintenance is noticeable, not just placebo effect but back up by cycling stats and numbers.

If you demand the best possible of yr beloved bike you will need an equivalent and dedicated qualified professional that delivers! Meticulous attention to detail on all the stuff that is often overlooked by the so call shop mechanics, he is constantly updated with the latest techniques and workflow in the ever-changing fast pace of cycling tech. Experience true peace of mind and reliability when you engage Peter’s service for yourself.

The magic doesn’t stop once he is done with your bike, the magic begins with your new journey on the bike!

Johnaton Was referred to Peter last due to repeated spokes snapping on my rear wheel. His service is very professional. Knowledge on Wheel Building is truly a skill not many can master and Peter definitely has his skill honed. I do not think many many replicate in our Singapore scene.

Why do I make such a bold statement?
I am 188cm and weighing in at 115 kilograms. That's 0.115 ton!
I ride a Brompton when Brompton has warned of their upper weight limits to their bicycles. Brompton bicycles has a 110kg weigh limit. Peter has built me a rim that withstand my perverted torture to the Brompton.

On a 16 inch wheel, I have broken spokes three separate times and previous fixes weren't able to prevent further spokes breaking at the hub area.

I left the rim at Peter's and this gentleman is a good customer manager too by telling me it will take 3-4 days to complete.

However, either by chance or his good customer service, he rang me the next day telling me he managed to complete my wheel. I collected the wheel the next day. I left the Rim on T Day and I collected it two days after! That's t+2!!

Peter has followed up with his work even after I collected my wheel and messages regularly to check back if everything is ok. His passion in this area is truly commendable. I thank him for this.

The important thing is that the wheel has not failed on me till today! It's been nearly 6 months, clocking over 2000km and apart from the early squeaking where the wheel was setting in..... It is now working perfectly! I haven't lost any weight myself and the wheel is going strong!!

Thank you Peter the Master Wheel Builder with Great Customer Management!

I first engaged Peter’s service back in 2015 when I sent to him my factory built Bontrager wheels for tuning. I was recommended his services by a friend who’s been a fan of Peter’s work. I instantly felt the difference after tuning as the wheels spun so much better and more consistent. The 2-year-old wheelset all sudden felt like it was brand new! Following that, I had engaged Peter to build a wheelset from scratch for my new bike. Took his advice on what hubs spokes to use and Peter has been my regular wheel builder for the last 5 years. I’ve built many wheelsets with Peter and none of them have ever disappoint me. I’m not particularly a light rider weighing in at 125kg with gear, but Peter has ensured every single time any wheels he built for me would withstand and form of bashing. I’ve brought the wheels that he built for me to many locations around the world which includes Bromo, Bali, Malaysia, Italy and even to Whistler Canada and they have excelled every single time! Even on some instances where I ran into mishap and cracked my rim or even broke a few spokes, I could still carry on with my ride and the wheels never once wobbled or went out of true! This is the testament to Peter’s superb wheel building skills that even a cracked carbon rim or running on 1 or 2 spokes lesser still didn’t hamper my ride. I’ve always told Peter it is my challenge to break the wheels but unfortunately or rather fortunately, I have been unsuccessful every single time. Peter is meticulous with his builds and will go the extra mile to make sure whatever he builds is suited to your riding needs. I’ve never visited any other wheel builder, nor have I asked any workshop to service my hubs and wheels ever since. Whatever bike servicing I do I always tell the mechanic to not touch the wheels as my preference is to let the master handle it himself. Thank you, Peter, for the superb work!

Concept Wheels Review Brian Johnsen - Team BikeLabz Singapore In the lead up to the 2017 Cape Epic, I had Concept Wheels create a set of hoops purpose-built for the rigours of the World’s toughest mountain bike stage race. Having already done the event two years prior in 2015, I knew that I needed something special. Seven days of competition on brutal South African terrain nearly destroyed the stock set of OEM wheels I used previously. This time around, I wanted a wheelset that would not only pass the toughness test but set a new standard for durability. Peter did not disappoint. Using asymmetric aluminium rims and silent-rolling Onyx hubs, he created a bomb-proof rolling dream. Not only did the wheels perform flawlessly on the biggest stage, they continue to take a beating and hold true to this day. I highly recommend Concept Wheels.
